Physician Assisted Suicide

On June 15, 2012 a  BC Supreme Court judge handed down a decision in Carter v. Canada (Attorney General) striking down the Criminal Code provisions against aiding or abetting a suicide. The Attorneys General of BC and Canada have until July 15th, 2012 to decide whether to appeal the decision. If they decide not to appeal, then physician-assisted death will be legal within one year.

This is not a time for remaining silent over something that will change the landscape of how we approach the end of life forever.

Attached is a link to a page from the Christian Medical and Dental Society with a summary of the ruling and sample letters for BC and Canadian residents. If you are a BC resident or a Canadian resident please consider writing a letter encouraging the appeal process.

This is not the only option and should not be considered either right or inevitable.
